Birthday on Thursday - complete with anxieties of a new decade;
Fabulous party on Saturday with presence and presents from those that I wanted to be with;
Sent my daughter off to school in Jamaica on Tuesday.
Slowly coming back to life (without having her near) only today.
The fact that she has gone home to school really struck me this morning when I went to brush my teeth. I suddenly just saw my lone toothbrush, standing in it's usual holder, in it's usual place on the pristine white face basin. It just looked so alone.
It's always been just been the two of us - inseparable until now. Apart from the usual holidays when I would send her back home, or when I have to travel we have always been together. Have spent the past days reminiscing about the adventures, the arguments ( far and few between) and everything else that we have been doing together since forever it seems. Both her friends and my friends couldn't understand how close we were and often times remarked ' it's just unusual' . But having grown up with a Mother who was still my mother and my friend, I really wanted to have the same type of relationship with my own daughter.
Truth be told I am missing my best friend, and am as lonely as my toothbrush.
There are two lasting bequests we can give our children. One is roots. The other is wings. ~Hodding Carter, Jr.
It kills you to see them grow up. But I guess it would kill you quicker if they didn't.

Aw, I'm sorry :( Hope you get to see each other soon. Was schooling in Ghana not an option?
Hey Anon, thanks for popping by. She was in fact going to school here in Ghana but I may soon be moving (not sure where and when) and wanted to make sure that she was settled. Sending her home to my family was the best solution we (did get her opinion too) could both think of. Already counting down the days to Christmas holidays!
Yes. I have now seen the mysterious lady!
I think you are cool.
You and the young lady, I can see, are really close.
Hope you will be chatting via skype everyday at least.
Ha, ha - but there is a pic of me on my blog so you have seen me before Posekyere!
Thanks for thinking I am cool, I need those reassurances at my age - lol!
We have started the chats already and the e-mails too.
In this one i CAN SEE YOU ... awake!
Hope you are learning to see the beauty of the single toothbrush. It symbolises strength and fortitude.
Bless You!!
